FAQs
Is engineering insurance the same as equipment insurance?
Not quite. Engineering insurance is a broader category that includes inspections, breakdown cover and plant risks. Equipment Insurance often refers to tools and smaller gear, but we’ll help you combine the right cover for your business.
Can I get cover for mobile construction plant?
Absolutely. We can arrange construction plant insurance for mobile machinery such as excavators, dumpers, rollers and telehandlers, whether you own them or hire them in.
Do I need separate cover for hired-in plant?
Yes. Hired-in Plant cover protects you if something happens to machinery you’re renting. Most hire agreements make you liable for loss or damage, so this is an important one to include. Cover will also include continuing hiring charges.
What’s included in engineering business interruption cover?
It covers lost income and additional costs if your plant or machinery fails and causes work to stop. It’s designed to help your business recover financially while the problem is fixed.
Are inspections included as standard?
No, but engineering inspections are required to ensure you comply with statutory and regulatory requirements
Can I cover damage to property caused by my machinery?
Yes. Damage to surrounding property is usually available as an optional extra. It’s worth considering if you operate in confined or sensitive environments.
Does cover include explosion and collapse?
This is an optional extension under engineering inspection policies. Cover can be included for accidental explosion or collapse of machinery such as boilers or pressure vessels, helping with repairs and damage caused.
Is there a limit to how old my machinery can be?
Not necessarily, but some insurers may exclude very old equipment. We will talk through what you use and make sure your policy reflects it properly.
